The second most common driveway job on the coast is not a new driveway, it is more driveway: width for a second car, a bay for the boat or the caravan, or a crossover moved or widened so the block actually works. Small pours are unforgiving on price per metre, so this page is straight about how they are quoted.
Extensions and widenings
An extension is poured against the existing slab with its own compacted base and steel, isolated from the old concrete with a joint so the two slabs can move without cracking each other. Levels are matched at the join and the crossfall is carried through so water still leaves the driveway. Where the extension is part of a bigger job, a replacement or a new pour, it borrows the mobilisation and the rate comes down; that arithmetic is shown plainly in the quote.
Crossovers, and the rules that come with them
The crossover is the council’s strip, built to the council’s drawing. Sunshine Coast Council and Noosa Shire both run the same two tier system: a standard crossover is self assessed against the council’s checklist and needs no permit, while a non standard one, wrong width, wrong position, corner block, near a pole or a pit, needs the council’s written approval before any work starts, with an application fee the council sets each financial year. Noosa is the stricter of the two on materials and also requires substantial public liability cover for work outside the boundary, which the contractor carries.
None of this lands on you. The checklist assessment happens at the site measure, and whether your crossover is standard is stated in writing with the quote, along with the council fee if an application is needed.
Estates add a layer
In Aura, driveway and crossover positions are fixed on each lot’s approved plans, and the finish rules come from the release’s design guidelines rather than only the council. Harmony works the same way through its own covenant approvals. On covenant land the approvals path is identified before anything is priced as final.
Getting a number
The pricing page covers what moves small pour rates, and the calculator will give a working range for an extension in seconds. Rates move with site conditions and variations; the number that holds is the written quote after a site measure.
